Why we use MCT oil in our products
Hemp extract, is exactly what it says on the tin. Extract from the hemp plant. This is the part that contains all the phyto-cannabinoids and terpenes that support our endocannabinoid system.
However taking pure hemp extract is problematic for two reasons. Firstly it would be very hard to accurately measure, as the dose is so small. Secondly, it needs to be in the presence of fat, in order to be effectively absorbed by the body.
That's why nearly every CBD oil on the market comes in a carrier oil. Whats a carrier oil? As the name implies it’s an oil that carries another substance. In this case, our carefully selected CBD rich hemp extract.
However we just don’t use any old carrier oil. Through continued research and development we have chosen a very specific carrier oil for our products.
We use a premium quality, coconut based MCT oil.
MCT stands for medium chain triglycerides. Derived from coconut or sustainably sourced palm kernel oil, MCTs are easier to digest and absorb than long chain triglycerides. As a result, the CBD they carry is released into your system quickly.
It also has several other benefits:
Great taste: A lot of CBD oils can taste pretty disgusting, the high volume of terpenes present combined with cheap, bad tasting carrier oils can not only result in a bad tasting product but can also leave a burning sensation in your mouth. Using a premium coconut based MCT oil gives our products a much more pleasant taste, without the burn.
Good source of energy: As well being a great carrier oil for the hemp extract compounds, MCT oil is easily and rapidly used as a fast energy source by the body. You feel less lethargic and more energetic as you perform your daily activity.
Environmentally sustainable: Our MCT oil is made entirely from coconuts, not ecologically damaging palm oil trade sources. So you don’t need to worry about any damage to the environment.
It’s high in lauric acid: a potent antibacterial that may support clearer skin
