Hemp Extracts: How Do They Work?

There are over 80 phyto-cannabinoid compounds found in the Hemp (Cannabis Sativa) plant.

Amazingly, phyto-cannabinoids can work alongside endo-cannabinoids produced naturally in our bodies.  They act on an internal network of receptors called the Endocannabinoid System (ECS).

The ECS is thought to be vital for balancing various different systems in our bodies.  It was discovered in the 1990s and its full importance continues to be uncovered.

A deficiency in endocannabinoids has been linked to various conditions, including fibromyalgia, IBS and migraines.

Boosting the ECS with natural plant cannabinoids may help boost and rebalance the Endocannabinoid System.

Cannabinoids from Hemp, particularly Cannabidiol (CBD), have been widely studies to understand their effects on the ECS.

The presence of the ECS in stress responses suggests cannabinoids may have a role to play in combatting stress.

CBD may have a positive effect on anxiety levels and neuroprotection, regulating how the brain responds to stress.  It can bind to a receptor called 5-HT1A receptor, acting in a similar way to serotonin.

CBD has strong antioxidant properties and also works as an allosteric modulator of the opioid receptor, which may help in managing pain perception.

CBD has anti-inflammatory properties too, suppressing inflammatory responses and pathway.

Our response to the cannabinoids in Hemp Extracts continues to be uncovered and further research is needed.
