For a long time, THC was the best-known photo-cannabinoid because of Marijuana – it produces the mind-altering ‘high’ affects you picture when you think of someone smoking weed. This psychoactive compound is a controlled substance in the UK and many parts of the world.
CBD is another major photo-cannabinoid. In contrast, it is non-psychoactive and is entirely legal in the UK in its pure form.
Different varieties of the Cannabis Sativa family have differing levels of these compounds.
Raw Botanics’ products are made with one such variety – Hemp.
Hemp is naturally low in THC and has higher CBD levels. It is grown for hemp fibre, seeds and oils.
Other strains of the Cannabis Sativa family have been developed to maximise THC levels. These plants are commonly known as Marijuana.
To be considered legal in the UK, a CBD product should have a total THC amount below 1 milligram.* Such preparations are usually based on extracts derived from the Hemp variety, with various extraction methods used to produce distillates with high CBD content and only trace levels of THC, if any at all.
We use the cryogenic ethanol extraction method. This ensures the full spectrum of Hemp’s cannabinoids and essential oils are not damaged. This is followed by a combination of short-path, wiped-film and fractional distillation to produce our low-THC distillate.
While this extraction method is more difficult than others, it produces a high quality and reliable CBD extract. Unlike other methods, it doesn’t compromise the beneficial compounds of the plant.
